These are patterns our therapy team hears about most often from parents in the weeks before their child's first screening — not a diagnosis, just a starting point.
Sensory reactions — reacts strongly to certain textures, sounds, or lights (clothing tags, hair washing, loud rooms).
Messy play — avoids or seeks out messy play noticeably more than other children their age.
Handwriting & fine motor — more trouble with handwriting, drawing, or scissors than peers.
Self-care skills — struggles with buttons, zips, shoelaces, or cutlery independently.
Coordination — seems clumsier than peers, bumps into things, or tires quickly during play.
Attention — difficulty sitting still or staying focused through a meal or short task.
Transitions — gets unusually upset by changes in routine or moving between activities.
Play preferences — avoids playgrounds, swings, or climbing equipment other kids enjoy.
Following instructions — struggles with multi-step instructions compared to same-age peers.
Parental instinct — you've simply had a feeling something feels different, without a clear reason why.
